Nanjing is a lovely city! A long time ago it was China's capital city. It's not as big as Shanghai but it has fifty universities! We had a few days here but we wished we could have stayed longer.

When we woke up in Nanjing it was mid-autumn day.

We had our moon cakes for breakfast. They're a bit like mince pies but they have all sorts of sweet fillings in them. Then we went out to visit some schools in Nanjing.

On the way we saw a lot of people on bikes and motor bikes.
Don't try this at home kids!

The kids at this school have each subject for 40 minutes, followed by a short play time, then another lesson and another play time... They don't have a really long break. They start school at 8:30 and finish at 4:30.

Near the playground they had a pond where you can sit and relax. A ball landed in the pond right in front of us. The kids were a bit disappointed because when a ball goes into the pond it has to stay there until a teacher can get it out...

When we went out for some lunch,
the principal gave us a ride!

We went to the place where Dr Sun Yat-sen is buried, at the top of a beautiful mountain near Nanjing. He is a very famous person in Chinese history and lots of Chinese people go to pay their respects to him. It was raining heavily but we climbed the 392 steps up ...

and then 392 steps down.
It was a special place and we were glad we went.
We went to the Nanjing Massacre museum. It's a war memorial to remember the  people who died when Japanese soldiers invaded Nanjing in 1937.
The bell outside is really big and its beautiful.
The Confucius temple is a popular place to go at night.

On our last night we had dinner in a restaurant where you make your own sauce with all kinds of herbs and spices,

and then you cook your meat and vegetables in a pot on your table. It was very delicious and very healthy too.
It was time to leave Nanjing and fly to Beijing. We had a nap at the airport while we waited for our plane. We wanted to have energy for the Great Wall of China and all of the other exciting things to see and do in Beijing.
